*Brief Information*

*Aim of ISO 50001:2018 EnMS* - To enable organizations to establish systems and processes necessary to continually improve energy performance, energy efficiency, energy use and energy consumption.

EnMS = Energy Management Systems

ISO 50001:2018 EnMS is an international standard mentioning requirements of Energy management systems (EnMS) with guidance for use. This standard is developed by ISO/TC 301 and published by International Organization for Standardization (ISO). ISO is a worldwide federation of national standards bodies. Successful implementation of this standard builds a strong EnMS that support a culture of energy performance improvement in the organization. Successful implementation of the standard require commitment from top management and also from all levels of the organization. Successful implementation of EnMS may bring cultural changes within an organization.

ISO 50001:2018 EnMS standard applies to the activities that are under the organization's control. Its application can be fitted to fit the specific requirements of the organization, the complexity of organization's systems, level of documented information and available resources. Within the scope and boundaries of EnMS, ISO 50001:2018 EnMS can be applied.

Development and implementation of an EnMS requires:
(i) an energy policy, energy objectives, energy targets to the organization's energy efficiency, energy use, and energy consumption, and
(ii) fulfilling legal and other requirements.

By developing and implementing an EnMS as per ISO 50001:2018 standard, an organization is able to:
(i) set and achieve objectives and energy targets, (ii) take actions as required to improve organization's energy performance, and
(iii) clearly show the system's conformity to the ISO 50001:2015 standard's requirements.
